LGBTQ+, Don't give up on your Allies.

LGBTQ+ community, did you know that according to a 2023 Gallup poll, we make up only 7.6% of the U.S. population? With that in mind, I don’t think we should give up on allies. I know many of us have been let down in the past, but that shouldn’t stop us from reaching out to supporters outside our own community.

Our fight is similar to the civil rights movement—it took both African Americans and forward-thinking allies to ignite change. At I Am Me Inc., we believe that with allies by our side, we can follow that same model and continue to work toward securing rights and equality for all. Together, we’re stronger.

We want to share with you some of the key reasons why it’s essential to include allies in our fight to maintain and gain new rights:

  1. Support and Validation: Allies offer emotional and social support, helping LGBTQ+ individuals feel accepted and validated in their identities. This support is critical for mental health and overall well-being.

  2. Amplifying Voices: Allies can help amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ individuals, especially in spaces where we may face discrimination. By using their privilege to speak out, they ensure our concerns are heard and addressed.

  3. Combating Discrimination: Allies are key in fighting against discrimination and prejudice. Standing up against homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of bias, they help create a more inclusive society for everyone.

  4. Education and Awareness: Allies play an important role in educating others about LGBTQ+ issues, fostering greater understanding and empathy. This leads to more supportive environments in workplaces, schools, and communities.

  5. Creating Safe Spaces: Allies help create safe and inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals can express themselves without fear of judgment or harassment.

  6. Building Community: Allies strengthen the LGBTQ+ community by fostering connections and solidarity across different groups. This creates a larger support network and encourages collective action for equality.

  7. Policy Advocacy: Allies can use their influence to advocate for policies that protect and promote LGBTQ+ rights, like anti-discrimination laws, marriage equality, and healthcare access. Their involvement drives systemic change.

  8. Role Modeling: Allies set an example for others, showing how to be supportive, respectful, and inclusive of LGBTQ+ individuals. Their actions inspire others to become allies and contribute to a culture of acceptance.

  9. Reducing Isolation: Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience isolation or loneliness. Allies can reduce this by building connections and community, making it easier to find support and friendship.

  10. Encouragement for Coming Out: Knowing that allies are there to support them can give LGBTQ+ individuals the courage to come out and live authentically, a major step toward personal happiness and fulfillment.

Together, allies and the LGBTQ+ community can continue to drive positive change. Are we too optimistic to believe in allies? We don’t think so—as long as they show up.

At I Am Me Inc., we’re weaving stronger connections with the ally community into our programming, aiming to reach them on a more personal and social level. For 2025, our focus is on Amplifying Ally Voices, Building Community, and Role Modeling. These initiatives are designed to inspire more allies to take action—whether that’s voting in favor of LGBTQ+ policies, helping create safe spaces with organizations like I Am Me Inc., or getting involved with political nonprofits such as the ACLU or HRC.

Two of our exciting ally-driven initiatives are Good Neighbor Talks and Allies Amplified, both showcasing Allyship in action and emphasizing the impact of supportive voices. We want Allyship to become contagious. We can’t do it alone—together, we’re stronger!
